The beautiful Chiemgau is not only known for its Chiemsee and Alps but also for places like Rosenheim, Munich, Salzburg, Berchtesgaden, and many other excursion destinations in nature. Whether in summer or winter, as a couple, family, or group, Germany’s most beautiful vacation region offers dreamy excursion destinations and plenty to experience. The Herreninsel, the largest island in Lake Chiemsee, is particularly popular, crisscrossed by hiking trails and home to Herrenchiemsee Palace. Additionally, there’s an exciting fairy tale park and a fantastic adventure pool to explore.
Herrenchiemsee was intended to be King Ludwig II’s most magnificent palace, more expensive than Linderhof and Neuschwanstein combined. However, when King Ludwig II died, it was far from finished. Yet, even incomplete, it enchants hundreds of thousands every year. The “Bavarian Versailles” is reachable only by boat. Through the grand staircase, visitors reach the completed rooms on the upper floor, including the grand Hall of Mirrors, which serves as a concert hall during the Herrenchiemsee Festival every year. The magnificent State Bedroom is among the other highlights of every tour. More…
White sausages, Oktoberfest, football – these are all synonymous with Bavaria’s capital. In addition to hosting the annual Oktoberfest, Munich’s cityscape is characterized by its centuries-old buildings, culture, and museums. The Hofbräuhaus, opened in 1589, is a true tradition for visitors. It’s often referred to as the “northernmost city of Italy” because of the warm foehn wind blowing from the south and the Alps standing like a painting on the horizon. It’s no wonder Munich is considered the most livable city in Germany. More…

The Fraueninsel is the second-largest of the three islands in Lake Chiemsee, after Herreninsel. The 15.5-hectare, car-free Fraueninsel is home to about 300 permanent residents in around 50 houses. The special island atmosphere is based on the juxtaposition of culture, religion, and tradition: In addition to traditional pottery workshops, fishing operations, and the Benedictine nunnery, there are the picturesque and well-kept houses and gardens of the islanders, beer gardens, and the old tree population with two over 1000-year-old linden trees. Small paths lead through the village and around the Fraueninsel. It can be circumnavigated on foot in 20 minutes and is also wheelchair accessible. More…
